Last night I got to take the new Canon 5D Mark III out on it’s maiden voyage. I doubt I’m going to be the main photographer using this incredible camera for still images, by my goodness, it’s like driving a Mercedes!
I chose this camera because of Canon’s dedication to video DSLR, which is off the scales cool. I was playing around with it in the office and the digital leveler came on the screen – it looked like I was flying an airplane! What a great tool.
I coupled this set up for video with a Zoom 4 audio recorder with two SLR inputs. Make sure to get the clapboard to go with it. It makes you look like a nerd, but you’ll be mighty glad you used when it comes time to sync the audio and video together in editing. They’re not that expensive (you don’t need a fancy one), but make sure you add that.
There are a couple more things I’d like to add to this kit, but if I had it to do over, I’d rinse and repeat. This is a remarkably affordable, professional set up for both still photography and videography.
Now if I only had an assistant!
